Kikuyu is a medium leaf grass. It has a coarser texture than other species of grass making it more suited to extreme weather conditions like drought or highly wet areas. Kikuyu is generally fast growing and will provide great lawn coverage. The grass is also extremely wear tolerant and can be used for roadsides and sporting fields.
Kikuyu grass holds its colour well throughout winter and can with stand mild frosts.
Kikuyu grass does very well in the Australian environment as it has drought tolerance qualities, making it an excellent choice if your turfing area has high sun exposure.
Kikuyu grass can grow in partially shady areas but it does need some sunlight. Kikuyu doesn’t grow as well in shade.
Due to Kikuyu grasses high growth rate you will need to mow this lawn frequently. It is generally mowed at a height between 30 – 40mm.
